The Dan McKay rookie of the year award honours Dan McKay, who served SUAACT for 45 years and spent much of his career mentoring, guiding, and assessing new umpires. The award is determined by consensus of the Executive Committee, with the President as the deciding vote.
In deciding the recipient of the award, the Executive Committee may consider the recipients’ willingness to umpire games across a number of leagues and difficulty levels; willingness to advance their umpiring skills and respond well to mentoring; general attitude to the game and to the profession of umpiring; and any other criteria they consider relevant.
The award is eligible for greenshirts and those who have achieved Level 1 during the season under consideration.
